My staple Keto foods

The Keto foods I rely on to survive each week

Keto Foods Survival Guide

I’m very fortunate in that I’ve lost a lot of interest in food. This means my weekly shop and cooking sessions are fairly fine tuned and take minimal effort.  I will run through a typical day in my Keto foods diary, it’s nothing glamorous but has been successful for me.

Breakfast

This could be obvious, Bacon and Eggs. No secrets here. 2 eggs and about 120g of shortcut bacon into the fry pan with a touch of Olive oil. Quick, easy, tasty, bacon.

Lunch

Things change up a little here, depending on whats in the fridge/freezer. Generally it’s either Caveman Keto’s AWESOME Meatza or a quick tuna/chicken meal which I’ve listed below.

  • 200g Tuna/Chicken Breast
  • 100g Broccoli (Fresh or Frozen)
  • 20g Melted butter over the broccoli
  • 30g Shredded Cheese
  • If I have the calories to spare I mix in a table spoon of whole egg Mayo for some extra tasty goodness.

At times I’ve substituted broccoli for cauliflower or spinach just because that’s what I had on hand, sometimes I leave things out or add things. As long as its Keto and under my calorie budget I’m pretty easy on lunch.

Other times I’ve had roast chicken and a lettuce, 1/2 tomato, 1/4 red onion, 30g Cheese and 20g Mayo salad.

Another option I’ve used in the past, also from Caveman Keto

Lazy Keto Chicken

Dinner

Dinner has a few Keto choices I bounce between.

  • Streak, broccoli and cheese -> nothing to difficult, Touch of salt on the steak, Steam the broccoli and cover it in cheese.
  • Breast Chicken and salad/broccoli/spinach ( A bit like lunch mentioned above )

OR

Cavemans Taco Salad. I pre-make this weekly and has been a go to every step of the way. I’ve simplified this recipe a bit and eat this at least 5 days a week. My dumbed down version is.

  • Cook 1kg of beef mince with taco seasoning.
  • Divide evenly into 5 containers.

When its time to eat.

  • Grab a handful of lettuce
  • Cut up 1/2 a tomato
  • Cut up 1/4 of an onion or red onion
  • 30g Shredded cheese
  • Tablespoon of sour cream or whole egg mayo
  • Heat up a container of mince
  • Mix it all together and eat.

This tends to put me around 1400cals and <20g carbs with ease.

As you can see, I live a very simple food life. There are times when I have something different, or we go out for dinner.

If we do go out I usually end up with steak anyway, so no drama there.

What about special events?

Well, I’m pretty strict here. A Birthday with cake, junk and carbs? I just wont eat. A barbecue gathering, I pick out a few Keto foods I can have and stick with that.  I lost the desire to stuff myself with junk, I’ve just about lost all temptation to anything carbs or sugar… My weakness is chocolate, but I’ve got more than enough will power to avoid that too!

My biggest vice, the one thing that I’m admittedly addicted too… Pepsi Max/Diet Coke (which ever is cheaper at the time).

I can’t go a day without it, thankfully I’ve not seen any adverse affects… I have also cut down considerably compared to my pre-keto days.

Alcohol

I’m not a beer drinker, so that’s easy. I also don’t drink often, but when I do, it is Whiskey/Scotch and diet coke. I don’t panic about Keto and just enjoy it. (And stay hydrated, Keto Hangovers make normal hangovers look like holidays).
